How do ingroup members and outgroup members perceive each other? This is a topic of ongoing interest in the field of stereotype research in intergroup cognition. Do different groups view each other in terms of enthusiasm and ability in a "higher or lower" manner, as in the framework of the social cognitive content model? This remains to be proven. This book presents a series of explorations of the face compensation effect in intergroup cognition, using faces as a medium and manipulating the dimensions of enthusiasm and competence traits at the level of mental representations through reverse correlation image classification techniques. Starting from the 'psychological science' of the laboratory and moving towards 'social reality', the book offers interesting findings on the formation of first impressions and trait inferences based on faces in everyday life.
