Description:

Catholicism, which was reintroduced in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, because of its close connection with early globalization, had a different cultural significance for the development of Chinese society from Buddhism and Taoism. It not only shows the characteristics of China's involvement in the world system, but also reflects the early ways of Chinese society to cope with globalization and western civilization. This book attempts to examine Chinese and Western archival documents from the perspective of historical anthropology, and makes an in-depth investigation of the world of Catholic belief in China in the early Qing Dynasty, involving such topics as historical memory, nationalism, social networks, gender awareness, book dissemination, time and culture, medical ceremonies, space change, etc. The book tries to reveal the process of the localization of Catholicism in the early Qing Dynasty and the universal contact with the bottom society from the details through specific and subtle cases.
