The Internet of Information emerging in the mid-to-late 20th century has triggered a global upsurge,and led the human society ushering into a new industrial revolution. At the beginning of the 21st century,the Internet bubble burst in the United States,whereas the digital economy keeps making robust progress all over the world. Around 2010,the new generation of information technology represented by big data,cloud computing,blockchain,IoT and AI has achieved large-scale commercialization,and has promoted a new round of technological and industrial revolution. Since then,global digital economy has steered away from the information Internet towards the consumer Internet stage.
China attaches great importance to S&T innovation and digital economy development,and has issued a series of policy plans in the field. The Chinese economy,after entering a new normal,has been undergoing a transition from the traditional factor-driven growth model to an innovative TFP-driven one. Leveraging on the ultra-large-scale market advantage,China has seized the opportunity of booming e-commerce and consumer Internet,and its digital economy has been growing at an ultra-fast speed with various new economies,new businesses,and new models emerging. The 14th Five-Year Plan and Vision 2035 has put forward the requirements for accelerating digital development,emphasizing the deep integration of digital and real economy,activating the potential of data factor,and establishing a digital China.
In 2016,General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed at the Philosophy and Social Sciences Work Symposium to “accelerate the construction of the disciplinary system,academic system,and discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics”,and research on the digital economy has gained great popularity. The Digital Economy Frontier team of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has developed fundamental theory and methodology for digital economy measurement,and has gathered authoritative experts to carry out extensive and in-depth research in many frontier topics related to the digital economy. By tracking the latest development in both academic research and innovative practice in digital economy at home and abroad,the status-quo of digital economy are displayed from multiple perspectives,and the theoretical and practical development related to the digital economy are reviewed.
Digital Economy Frontier strives to provide a comprehensive reference for academia,industry,and decision-making departments to grasp the pulse of digital economic development. The aim in to accelerate the development of China’s digital industries,promote the digital transformation and upgrading of traditional industries,and provide decision-making reference for relevant departments to implement effective regulation and control.
