Description:

According to the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC),education, science and technology, and human resources are the foundational and strategic pillars for building a modern socialist country in all respects. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan,China’s science education has been on its way to consolidate the foundation of high-quality development and develop a strong workforce for the modernization drive. In order to earnestly implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress,China Research Institute for Science Popularization has organized several institutes to compile Report on the Development of Science Education in China(2023)based on the analysis of the development of science education in China during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

Report on the Development of Science Education in China(2023) consists of four parts:General Report,Sub-Reports,Special Reports and Appendix. General report sorts and summarizes the development of science education in China since the 14th Five-Year Plan in terms of policy environment, infrastructures, science teachers,out-of-school science education, and scientific literacy of teenagers, etc. It also puts forward some suggestions by analyzing the problems of science education at the present stage, further promoting the high-quality development of science education. Sub-report summarizes the construction of the curriculum and teaching personnel of Science Education, the reform of teaching methods and evaluation, and the monitoring of the quality of compulsory science education in primary and secondary schools since the 14th Five-Year Plan. It also concludes with some countermeasures for the high-level development of the corresponding fields. Special Reports are divided into teacher reports and out-of-school reports. Through two large-scale research studies, the teacher special reports comprehensively present the team status and career development of science teachers in elementary schools and adolescent sci-tech mentors in West China, analyze the existing problems in depth and make pointed recommendations. By means of case studies and research studies, the out-of-school reports focus on the competitive system and talent cultivation mode of Adolescent Sci-tech Innovation contests, and the current situation of and needs for science popularization resources in primary and secondary school venues, analyze and summarize two important elements of China’s out-of-school science education in detail. Guidelines for Sci-tech education activities by out-of-school training institutions, and design patterns and characteristics of four types of science and technology education activities are included in the Appendix.

This book is the fifth in a series of Science Education Blue Books, which adheres to the idea of “phased,forward-looking,investigating,and instructive”,and adopts a variety of research methods to reflect the current development process of science education from different aspects. We hope the book can provide references for science educators and learners in both formal and non-formal education and contribute to the prosperity of science education in the new era.
