Blue Book of Automotive Industry is an annual research report on the development of China’s auto industry. It was first published in 2008, and this book, an authoritative work co-authored by the Research Department of Industrial Economy under the Development Research Center of the State Council and the Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE), in consultation with senior advisors of the automotive sector and under the support from Volkswagen Group China.
2011 marks the 10th anniversary of China’s accession to WTO; the auto industry enjoyed the best 10 years and the fastest growth in the past decade. Most remarkably was its rise to become the world’s largest producer and consumer of automobiles; the industry has embarked on the path of growing bigger and stronger. It is under such a context that this book undertakes to carry out a study centering on “Review of China’s Auto Industry after WTO accession and Forecast for its Future Development”, analyzing the development of the auto industry in the past decade and chronicling its major achievements and experiences, including sub-sections such as: Analysis and Comments on Choice of Development Strategies, Purchase Policies and Market Demand, Industry Policy and Management System, Industry Standards and Regulations, Opening Strategies and Joint Venture and Cooperative Operation, Technological Progress and Innovation, Auto Parts and Supporting System, Import and Export and Global Expansion. The study also offers a forecast for its future development and analyzes factors having an impact on its development in the next decade. In addition, the book also examines the changes in the global competitiveness of China’s auto industry using the Global Competitiveness Evaluation System we established. The focused study this year is entitled “Small and Lightweight Vehicles Going Mainstream”, pointing out that “the popularization of small and lightweight vehicles is the easiest and most effective means for energy conservation”. Besides, the book provides a quantitative analysis on the energy conservation potentials of China’s small and lightweight passenger vehicles, putting forward suggestions for the formulation of policies to promote the popularization of small and lightweight passenger vehicles. Lastly, the book also includes routine data such as review of annual development, market prosperity analysis, statistics and information summary, etc.
