Annual Report on the Development of Chinese Documentary (2012) is an annual report of Chinese documentary industry launched by China Documentary Research Center (CDRC). The report is based on a series of research on the frontier projects launched by CDRC. It integrates perspectives and opinions of documentary experts both home and abroad, guided by national vision, industrial viewpoint and academic character.

CDRC has launched a full investigation on the production and communication agencies of Chinese documentary. In addition, the center has conducted joint studies with the third Bureau of China's State Council Information Office (SCIO), Bureau for External Cultural Relations of Ministry of China, China International Television Corporation, China Central News and Technology Film Group, CSM Media Research, CCTV, and other related agencies, on the topics of the production and operation system of documentary in CCTV, provincial TV stations and city stations; the cinema market of documentary films, Chinese documentary and the new media, the president situation of Chinese independent documentary filmmakers, etc. The research group summarizes and settles the large brand-new data with analysis, then combines with the relevant industry departments' data by comparison and gets fully understanding of the present situation of Chinese documentary industry, in order to raise some viewpoints to the future development of documentary industry.
