Myanmar is one of the most important neighbors of China. With the continued progress of China's peaceful development, Myanmar plays an increasingly important role in China's border security, energy security, Indian Ocean Strategy and gateway construction. Due to its long seclusion and little contacts with the international community after the independence, Myanmar is covered with mystery. In fact, it's a country with prominent features.

     As Myanmar is of increasing importance in China's peaceful development, relevant government departments, enterprises, scholars and the public of China are eager to get more accurate information about Myanmar. Therefore, the Myanmar Study Center of Yunnan University started to make efforts to write and publish annual development report on Myanmar since 2012, with contribution from scholars in and around Yunnan University, in order to provide detailed and accurate systematic study reports and latest information for all social circles.

　There are three parts in the Annual Report on Myanmar's National Situation (2011-2012).The first part is the General Report, which analyzes the general situation and features of Myanmar since 2010.The Second part is Special Reports, which studies Myanmar's political transformation since 2010, Sino-Myanmar relations and its development in all fields, reasons of the long-standing ethnic issues as well as Myanmar's alternative to opium cultivation and drug situation. The last part is Appendices, which include a chronology of Myanmar under military rule.
