The combined GDP of emerging economies and low-income countries has for the first time exceeded 50% of global GDP. This is a watershed event in the world, and in world economic history. Its profound impact on the international system and security pattern will be long-lasting. It presents serious challenges to international relations around India and Pacific Rim, and affects bilateral and multilateral cooperation in this region. Contributors to the volume seek to answer questions such as what consequences changes in regional and international situation have on international relations around India and Pacific Rim, how the latter have changed, and how these changes affect China’s strategy for its surrounding regions.
