Abstract: Many factors influence the growing frequency of transnational mobility of students on a global scale.On the one hand,a burgeoning middle class in emerging economies and an increasing number of government scholarships provide momentum to the constant prosperity of global education.Studying abroad has transformed from an activity for the elite to an option for the more general public.On the other hand,many developed countries face the aftermath of economic deflation and therefore cut down education expenditure.So,they rely heavily on the tuition fees of overseas students.At the same time,as technology develops and globalization progresses,new methods for studying abroad emerge,becoming more diverse and individualized.China has exported the largest number of students studying abroad and university and high school students occupy a large portion.And more top students choose self-funding to study abroad.

2 Survey on Chinese University Graduates Studying Abroad in 2013/044
Abstract: According to the joint survey of CCG and MyCOS,in 2013,the ratio of China’s university graduates going abroad in the total number of students has decreased,but basically keeps an uptrend.Most graduates choose to study abroad to promote their competitiveness in job markets,and aim to acquire a postgraduate degree.They are mainly financed by their parents and relatives.Websites of foreign universities serve as a main source of information.Chinese students studying in North America,Europe,Australia and Asia also show enormous differences in purpose of studying abroad,the choices of main information sources,social status of their family and educational background.

4 Experiences of Chinese Students in the US/074
Abstract: Against the background of fierce competition among global talent,studying overseas(including degree-seeking and academic exchange)has become a fashion.With a rapidly increasing number of students studying abroad,such a trend has occurred as a result of economic growth and wealth accumulation that enable people to either self-fund or win government sponsorship for studying abroad,as well as the strenuous efforts by destination states to accelerate the process of higher education internationalization and meanwhile to increase revenue of their education industry.The combination of“supply”and“demand”have resulted in constant changes in the models of overseas studies and the experiences of international students in the past two decades.Based on the individual case studies on Chinese students studying in the US state universities and colleges,this part mainly focuses on the experiences of Chinese students in the US.We will summarize the results in the conclusion part to propose suggestions for the government as well as students and parents with the intention to study abroad.

Abstract: In the 21st century,knowledge economy has become an important driving force of economic globalization,and talent and innovation has become the focus of governments of all countries.The US and Canada,as developed countries,boast a strong competitive edge in traditional economic fields.In order to maintain their existing advantage and cope with the ageing effect,both governments have stepped up efforts to attract overseas students,not only to create a diversified educational environment,but also to attract students to become domestic residents through an open immigration system.Therefore,international students not only have brought considerable economic benefit to those countries,but also enhance their international competitiveness in research and development as well as human resources.This part mainly reviews the status quo of international students in the US and Canada,with a focus on Chinese students in these two countries.

Abstract: Australia and New Zealand are the two major countries in Oceania,which attract many international students.The two countries have comprehensive and high-quality educational systems,efficient visa policies and a convenient living environment.All these elements attract many Chinese students to study there.Although in recent years the number of students going to these two countries has dropped,Chinese students still remain the largest group of international students there.The two countries attach great importance to China’s market by publishing more preferential policies and hosting many information sessions in China every year.

Abstract: In recent years,Japan and South Korea have been making corresponding policy adjustments in competition for talent to attract more international students.For instance,Japan has gradually facilitated international graduates in applying visas to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.The South Korean government has adopted “Study Korea Project” and a series of policy reforms.All these constitute new attractions for Chinese students.

Abstract: The higher education service Chinese universities provide to international students are different from that offered to local students.It is featured by private consumption.As a result,the cost-sharing policy in higher education does not suit the tuition pricing policy for international students in China.Instead,we should take into account the factors of the supply-demand relationship,the level of higher education and divergences across different regions and let different universities to decide on their own tuition fees for international students.Independent pricing will help higher education institutions improve their teaching quality and further explore the market for international students.

Abstract: The number of Chinese students studying abroad is on an increase every year,which has become a unique scenario in the higher education picture of many countries.This part will focus on a special group among the large number of Chinese students studying abroad,namely,high school and university students who enjoy the Singaporean Government scholarship.Based on the ethnographic survey the author conducted for 16 months,this section introduces three major scholarship programs for Chinese students in Singapore.The dramatic experiences of scholarship recipients in Singapore are also recorded in this section.
