Annual Report on China’s Cruise Industry(2015)is the annual research report that Shanghai International Cruise Economic Research Center organizes experts to compile in light of the latest cruise industry development in China, and is one of important components of “Paper Series” by Social Sciences Academic Press.

This 2015 “Green Book of Cruise Industry”, the 2nd book of publication series, consists of the primary report, the annual top ten cruise industry highlights and special reports, which is richer and more consummate than the 1st book in terms of the content system.

The book firstly presents a panorama of the cruise industry development in China in the format of summary report, followed by Section Region and Section Industry to showcase the cruise regional development and cruise industry structure, and what’s new in the book is ten cruise tourism highlights.

The book explores prominent problems arising in the development of China’s cruise industry and puts forward policy recommendations on its future development.

As 2015 is the Year of Tourism for Maritime Silk Road China Cruise Tourism Program, China coastal areas, closely relying on the national development strategy of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and grasping the opportunity of the world cruise center’s fast shift to the East, speed up  the cruise port city construction, constantly drive the expansion of the cruise industry chain, gradually establish sound cruise industry supporting system in an effort to buttress the long-term sustainable development of Chinese cruise industry. It is elaborated in the primary report in a systematic and comprehensive manner.

As China’s cruise industry development strategy is becoming clear, the pattern of three cruise economy circles has taken shape, with cruise port hardware facilities to be completed in the next 2-3 years.

Overall, China cruise home ports’ construction is approaching the international standards. At this stage, the main task remains committed to improving the  hardware construction in fundamental port facilities, and relevant software construction as  auxiliary, such as formulating cruise port service reception standards, upgrading cruise port information platform, improving the customs  clearance and border control procedures for visitors, strengthening cruise channel safety management, building the ship supply system, improving disputes response mechanism, and maximizing cruise passengers’ interests and others.

National and local government policy support and fiscal support for the cruise industry are facilitating the gradual improvement of the cruise port city construction and the rise of national cruise brands.

Though Chinese cruise tourism got a late start, it is developing rapidly, with the market still growing at great speed.

With the transformation and upgrading of China’s economic development, the cruise market potential will be released. How to nurture emerging cruise culture, develop and promote professional cruise port services reception standards, deepen and improve the cruise industry chain will be expounded in length for readers.

Looking back to the development of the cruise industry in 2014-2015 of China, 2016 cruise industry in China will be more dynamic, with cruises and lines more diversified and colorful, and personalized lines to be designed and operated to satisfy individual needs.

Based on the analysis and summary of development achievements and problems in 2014 and 2015 in the primary report, the book conducts a scientific systematic forecasting and planning of the development of China’s cruise market in 2016. Special report focus on discussing and analyzing the regional cruise port development construction, cruise industry development and policy recommendations. In Section Region, it carries out case studies of China’s Shanghai and Guangxi and Korean regions throughout the cruise industry. It describes the current regional cruise port construction, analyzes problems in the construction and operation of China’s cruise ports, and summarizes experience and lessons to explore a cruise development road in line with China’s national conditions and Chinese cruise industry development. In Section Industry, it makes a systematic research and analysis as to building the cruise information platform, cultivating cruise visitors’ behaviors and cruise culture, establishing disputes and emergency response mechanisms, as well as the cruise channel safety management and evaluation system and other aspects, and points out that work and tasks should be identified in the future cruise development in China, which provides guidance for further improving China’s cruise industry system. In Section Policy Recommendations, it puts forward constructive suggestions for the Government, cruise companies and port terminals, defining their own responsibilities, improving cruise port management mechanisms and enhancing the management efficiency.
