Annual Report on China’s Leisure Development (2013-2015), known as Green Book of China’s Leisure No.4, is complied annually by the Tourism Research Center, Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASSTRC). It has been one of the key reports in the “Yearbook Series” published by the Social Sciences Academic Press. The book consists of two general reports and more than 20 special reports.

The basis of the sustainable development of leisure in China has been formed during the year 2014, covering eight aspects, such as macro-economy, national demand, regional practice, public service, industry development, international environment and news media. Specifically, in the perspective of national strategy, the Outline for National Tourism and Leisure (2013-2020) lays foundation for the development of tourism and leisure. In the perspective of macro-economy, the change in economic structure brings with it a leisure society and per capita GDP, the urbanization rate as well as service industry step into a new stage, which forms the macro-economic basis of leisure development in the next stage. In the perspective of national demand, active leisure concept has become a consensus. And in regional practice, every region actively explores in various aspects, such as paid vacation and leisure policy. In public service, the basic service system of leisure is forming in the urban and rural areas. In industry development, acceleration, transformation and innovation are formed, industries cluster is taking shape and industry environment is getting more mature. In the international environment, the investment of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Belt and Road initiatives provides a new platform for the leisure development of China. In news media, leisure consumption attracts more public concern.

In 2014, the scope of leisure industry in China was 3600 billion yuan, equals to 13.8% of the total retail sales of social consumable goods as well as 5.7% of GDP. It is expected that in 2015, this scope will surpass 4000 billion yuan. The member of Chinese leisure consumers will get larger and national leisure will be guaranteed. Leisure development will benefit from service industry and tourism industry will continue to lead the development of leisure in China.

The special reports concentrate on industry development, investigation and analysis, case study, probe and discussion as well as overseas perspective. These reports respectively deal with tourism and leisure, cultural leisure, sports leisure, performing arts, outdoor activities, private-owned cars and leisure, rural tourism and leisure and others, exploring the relationship between leisure and life-style, domestic demand expansion and economic transition.

As the earliest year book in leisure research, this book can be a choice for government, researchers and the public to gain the forefront information of leisure development in China.
