Due in part to the lack of an effective cooperation mechanism among them, the world’s emerging economies, especially the BRICS countries, are in a relatively weak and marginalized position in global development and governance. By contrast, developed countries have long attached importance to cooperation and collaboration, which have allowed them to achieve and maintain dominance in the global market. For the emerging economies to catch up , they need to learn how to strengthen cooperation in business, trades and investments in addition to unleashing their individual market potentials. Compared with the number of studies on the functions, prerequisites and methods of cooperation, far fewer  have targeted  the cooperative mechanism – including its motivation, prospects and meaning – among the emerging economies.
