This annual report is the product of collaboration among researchers from the Institute of Finance and Banking, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It updates readers on China’s monetary policy, operational conditions and development of the financial industry from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the third quarter of 2018. Through a careful examination of some of the key events in this period contributors seek to gain insights into the inherent logic and operating mechanism of China’s monetary and financial system. After a general report taking stock of the country’s overall financial situation, topical reports elaborate on developments in different aspects of the financial industry in 2018. They describe recent trends in China’s financial market, provide causal analysis, reflect on hot-button issues, and counsels  cautious optimism for things to come in 2019.
