In 2020, Guangdong not only brought the Covid-19 epidemic under control but also ensured socioeconomic development. The implementation of the 1+1+9 work plan by the province has contributed to economic recovery, the development of new growth drivers, better wellbeing of the people and social harmony and stability. The high-quality socioeconomic development of the province has been gaining momentum, with achievements made in attaining the goals and targets set in the 13th Five-Year Plan, winning the battle against poverty and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. The analysis on the issues and challenges of the socioeconomic development of the province in this study suggests that Guangdong should encourage the innovation-driven approach to speed up high-quality economic development, stabilize the supply chain and the industrial chain to support market entities through difficulties and accelerate the development of the modern industrial system, improve quality and efficiency and create a double development dynamic and strategic propellers for two-way openness, make use of the complementarities among regions for advancing coordinated and balanced rural-urban and cross-region development, overcome difficulties for deepening reforms and take the lead in developing high-standard market economy, promote shared services and harmonious communities and build Guangdong into a province with higher-level security.
