The year 2020 is a decisive year for China to finish building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and fight poverty. China has made remarkable achievements in poverty alleviation，and has actively provided knowledge and material assistance to other countries，fully practice the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind. Through continuous exploration and practice，social organizations have become an important source of power in China’s social governance. Domestically，social organizations have been strengthening Party building，consolidating and expanding the mass foundation for the Party’s governance，stimulating social vitality，and contributing to social governance，poverty alleviation and epidemic prevention and control. On the international front，relying on important national development strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative，social organizations have actively participated in the global fight against COVID-19，donated a large number of medical supplies，set up special funds，set up online medical platforms，carried out voluntary services across borders，and compiled COVID-19 prevention manuals.

In 2020，the fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee called for strengthening and innovating social governance，improving the social governance system，giving full play to the role of social organizations in social governance，and building a community of social governance in which everyone is responsible and enjoys. Report on Social Organizations in China （2021） summarizes the major achievements of innovation and development of social organizations with Chinese characteristics in 2020，and classifies the different development conditions of social organizations，private non-enterprise units，charitable organizations and social enterprises. On this basis，the book focuses on the role of social organizations in promoting regional economic growth；regard to the COVID-19 epidemic，the book focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on the survival of social organizations and the important experience of social organizations’ participation in public crisis management. The book also covers the participation of community social organizations in grassroots governance，their help in poverty alleviation，their party building work，and their provision of public services.

With the support of the central and local governments，great achievements were made in the innovation and development of Social organizations in China in 2020. While the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on China’s economic and social development，it has also brought opportunities for China to participate in global governance，and China has shone brightly in the global response to the pandemic. During the 14th Five-year Plan period，we will continue to review the experience gained in the development of social organizations since the founding of the People’s Republic of China，and continue to deepen the Party’s overall leadership over social organizations. China’s social organizations should continue to give full play to the advantages of Party building，innovate the way and content of services，strengthen the autonomy of development，pay attention to standardized development in the process of providing services，improve their professionalism，go abroad and actively participate in global governance，and establish the image of China’s social organizations.
