From 2020 to 2021,China’s media convergence was actively and scientifically responding to the challenges of COVID-19 and the economy of the whole nation steadily moves toward recovery. The central-level media have played a pivotal role in integrated communication,reporting on major topics and making the main themes louder and stronger. The gait of the provincial media is gradually calm and ease,and its vitality is gradually bursting out. The county-level media convergence centers trudge hard and march steadily,and the construction of conditions are almost complete. In general,all kinds of media have achieved steady growth in content,platform channel construction,and operation management. Media convergence has changed from incremental expansion to connotation expansion,and entered a new stage of intelligent integration,ecological integration and elastic integration.
The main body of this report is divided into five parts,which are the general report,the sub-report,the provincial part,the evaluation part and the reference part. In the general report,it mainly describes the new hot topics,new breakthroughs,new drivers and new paths for China’s media industry to enter the stage of ecological integration. In the report,the research group cited some cases and data from nationally representative media acquired during field research,and absorbed the opinions and suggestions of industry professionals. The general report focuses on the main characteristics of “ecological integration”,and the results achieved as the main source of power and growth points in the future.
To sum up,in recent years,China’s media convergence has shown the following distinctive new features:
One is intelligence. Cut-edge technologies such as big data,cloud computing and artificial intelligence have spread from the Internet to mainstream media,and innovative Applications are emerging in an endless stream. Media brains are surging. Media at all levels and of all kinds are racing to develop or implement intelligent technologies,and some of them have achieved data-driven and intelligence-driven.
The second is ecologicalization. Mainly manifested in:The media uses the “news + government affairs and business services” model flexibly,forming a distinctive internal mechanism and external representation. They either dig deep in the government sector,or dig in the commercial market. Some incubate their own industrial chain,some write think-tanks in their slogans,and some adapt to the economic test of Internet celebrities and bring live broadcasts of goods. Each show their talents and show their magical powers. Their development is down-to-earth and open-minded.
The third is liquidization. The fragmentation of various media operating mechanisms has been greatly improved,substantive progress has been made in optimizing the combination of new and traditional departments,staff mobility has been strengthened,performance Appraisal methods are becoming more unified,and organizational vitality has been highlighted.
The fourth is localization. The media’s participation in social governance continues to grow,and it has gradually become a trend of interaction with civilized practice centers around the world. It plays an important role in the construction of methods and means such as local network governance,data governance and grid management,as well as in key tasks such as epidemic prevention,poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.
From the perspective of the effectiveness of integration,the intensity of technological integration is greater and there are more highlights;the integration ecology is gradually formed,news and services,business and industry are mutually supportive. The internal integration of the organization is continuously advancing,becoming more flexible and more kinetic;the allocation of social resources is more reasonable,and the social adaptability is further enhanced.
This report focuses on the latest progress of the construction of county-level media convergence centers,the experience and lessons of media convergence,short video outlets,and the new practices and experiences of some provincial administrative regions such as Beijing,Tianjin,Shandong,Jiangsu,Shanghai,Zhejiang,Sichuan,Chongqing,Shaanxi,Yunnan,Guangdong,etc. Topics such as the 2020~2021 China Media Convergence Pioneer List and the Convergence Development Leader List are also analyzed by means of combination of point and aspect,with equal emphasis on academic theory and case studies. In the part of reference,the experience of foreign media on the way to break through the epidemic was reviewed.
