About the author(s):

Description:

This volume is one of a series of books that have been published annually throughout the past nine years. We are pleased to present this as the first volume appearing in English for international readers. Each year, the volume focuses on one central theme, while also reviewing progress in the development of China’s population situation, as well as the general situation of the labor market.

The publication of the Chinese version of the serial volume has drawn great attention and has prompted debates among both academic and policy-making circles, mainly around whether or not a Lewis Turning Point will arrive in China. While people remain at odds on various aspects of the discussion, the changing reality has provided more evidence favoring the conclusion that a Lewis Turning Point is coming.

This year’s English volume, dealing with the empirical evidence and policy implications related to the Lewis Turning Point, is a product of several works collectively composed by thirteen contributors on various subjects. Kam Wing Chan and Bill Lavely at the University of Washington served as advisors for the book. Qiu Yang and Guo Rongrong at Social Sciences Academic Press (China) served as editors and support staff. Aaron Howell conducted the final round of editing for the book. Matt Kawecki at Brill and Xu Jin at IPLE-CASS served as coordinators communicating between the editors, authors, reviewers, and publishers.
