The book is set against the backdrop of the covid-19 epidemic, the accelerated evolution of the changes, the increasingly complex international situation and the deepening of reform and opening-up. Through an extensive survey of agricultural and rural farmers and the study of a large number of policy documents, and under the guidance of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, the book sorts out the situation in which China's comprehensive agricultural production capacity is constantly improving, farmers' incomes continue to rise, and rural ecology improves significantly. The problems include the rising external dependence of agricultural products, the mismatch between planting layout and soil and water resources, the high income gap between urban and rural residents, the lagging construction of environments, the lack of rural governance talents and new farmers, the lack of cultural heritage and endogenous power of development, the poor agricultural and ecological production technology, the poor organisational and assessment mechanisms, and the poor circulation of factors between urban and rural areas.
