This book looks at the tension between the principles underlying Pakistan’s institutional operation and CPEC construction in terms of international relations, political institution, financial institution, NGOs, terrorism, economic geography, foreign investment, logistics, and mass media. The author argues that, according to the principles underlying the operation of various institutions in Pakistan, CPEC should be built in eastern Pakistan, which is densely populated, and more developed economically and in terms of infrastructure. However, the biggest challenge and risk for the CPEC are threats from terrorism, Islamic extremism and Balochistan’s separatism, which affect the developing regions in Pakistan, including the west and the southwest. Pakistan will never succeed at eliminating poverty - the social seedbed for the terrorism in the country’s western and southwestern regions unless the developing regions see substantial economic growth.
