The aim of this book is to describe and analyse the work and life of a particular group of labourers, the petrol workers. All the information in this book comes from questionnaires and field interviews of a sample of 368 petrol stations drawn from more than 2,000 stations in city B. The resulting information includes 2,558 valid questionnaires and 32 in-depth interview transcripts, forming a rather rich data and information base. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the labour processes of petrol workers and the mechanisms and influences of the relevant institutions, power, relationships, discourses and ideologies.
