This book provides a systematic account of Kang Youwei's idea of "Cosmos as a religion" and offers a new picture of the development of Kang Youwei's Cosmos thought. The young Kang Youwei experienced the development from "the science of global justice" to "the establishment of a religion based on the commonwealth". Taking the 1899 debate between Kang's disciples and teachers as the boundary, Kang Youwei's thought underwent an important adjustment. Thus, this book offers a new explanation of the problem that Kang Youwei did not print the entire book "The Book of Cosmos" during his lifetime. Starting from the study of Kang Youwei's "Cosmos as a religion", this book provides a new understanding of the development of Cosmos thought from the late Ming Dynasty onwards, expanding and deepening the understanding of the modern lineage of Cosmos thought, and thus developing the modern transformation of the "Yixia discourse", the hierarchy of politics/religion, and the "diversion in the Middle Kingdom". It also opens up the space for further research on the history of thought by exploring the modern transformation of the "Ebony-Harsh discernment", the class divergence of politics/religion, and the "re-merging within the divergence" and other great changes in thought and culture.
